There are reputable cottage industry selling lightweight and ultralightweight equipment.

There are established manufacturers serving this aspect of outdoor adventure.

The selections here are representative of the features and qualities to look for.

Once you have set your sights on a desired product, you may purchase online direct or locate the manufacturer's retail stores or find the product at online stores retailing their products, perhaps at discount.

My listings are to get you off to a good start.

I have pointed you at excellent outdoor clothing and gear you may not know existed.

REI has a How to Care for Technical Fabrics for care of Gortex and other pu-coated fabrics. This will prolong the life of the garment. The best thing you can do "in the field" is wear a mock-turtleneck half-zip long-sleeves top and select a jacket with ample features for ventilation, so you do not ruin these popular outdoor fashion garments with sweat.

I like the DWR treated fabrics better because you can wash the DWR back into the garment with reasonably available DWR product. I have listed several.

I also like soft shell jackets having very tightly woven face fabrics for shedding damp mist and wet weather. I have listed the best I found.

The other outer garments I do not list as rainwear, with the exception of neoprene, will "walk-dry" after a short rain shower or a brief downpour. These do not take the place of rainwear.

I have made selections true to the principles of my website: outstanding fabric, outstanding cut and design, and outstanding features for the overall weight.

Look around the websites, when you do look in. Look around to find more great gear.

I often linked to women's clothing first, where I could. The men's products are listed. I linked to clothing made for women first, because for so many years I had to choose from outdoor clothing made only for men.

Nearly every product is available for men or women.

If the product for women isn't as good as the product for the man, I do not list it.

Many websites will not give direct links, requiring visitors to go thru their menu. In that case, don't give up. Be persistent.

I have used the actual product name.

I have provided direct links everywhere possible.
